Adventure Poland Camping in Poland Canoeing Expeditions Canoe Hire Canoe and Kayak Pictures 4x4 Tours SkiingWhen
you consider a skiing holiday, the mountain ranges of France and Italy are
often at the forefront of your mind; however the Tatra Mountains offer a
fantastic experience for skiers of all abilities. Despite boasting over 50
world class slopes the Polish mountains still aren’t as popular as their
French and Italian counterparts, whilst this is unfortunate it probably
provides a better experience for skiers as it has a lot more charm than
its more notorious rivals! The
most popular resort in the region is that of Zakopane, it is in close
proximity to the airports of Krakow (70 miles north) and Poprad in
Slovakia (40 miles south) and it is easily accessible by bus, train and
car. The standard of the slopes attract millions of Poles and travellers
from Eastern Europe year after year, and due to its great value for money
and beautiful scenery, it is becoming increasingly popular with those
further afield. There
are various ski schools offering ski hire and courses for skiers and
snowboarders of all levels. The main season is from December through to
May; however, in January there are a huge amount of tourists due to school
holidays so the slopes can get very crowded. Skiers’ prefer to hit the
slopes from the end of February until early April. As with all adventure
holidays, make sure you have decent cover from a reputable travel
insurance provider, you can never be to sure how much cover is provided by the
ski schools! Zakopane itself is a lure, offering a vast array of small shops, cafes and restaurants, most of which are situated on the Krupówki promenade. Many of the restaurants have live performances of traditional Polish folk music which is a novel but welcome accompaniment to your meal. Even if you are not eating these places provide a nice place to sit down and relax after a long day on the slopes. If you do not enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city there are various other resorts available in the region such as Szczyrk or Szklarska Poreba. These resorts offer a more private and intimate experience. Whichever you prefer, your skiing holiday in Poland will be one you won’t forget!
